Unwind for the evening in your private twin or double room, or comfortable dormitory accommodation.
Trek over the historic border pass into Switzerland, taking in sweeping mountain vistas as you descend into the peaceful Swiss Val Ferret. Take a 45-minute morning transfer to Champex, a beautiful lakeside village tucked beside a high mountain lake. Unwind for the evening in your guaranteed private twin or double room at a welcoming local auberge.
Leave Switzerland behind as you conquer the trail heading back into France. Relax for the evening in your private twin or double room at a premium local hotel.
Embrace the final and most photographed day of your journey. Grading: Moderate
This moderate hike requires a good level of mountain fitness and some hiking experience. You will navigate well-maintained trails with a mix of gravel paths, dirt tracks, and rocky alpine terrain, experiencing sustained daily climbs of up to 1,450 meters and averaging 988m daily gain. Anticipate these substantial elevation gains, steep descents, and stair sections that require sure footing and previous experience walking on uneven, high-altitude terrain. Sturdy, high-quality hiking boots with excellent ankle support and a gripped sole are essential for safety on the rocky surfaces. Additionally, hiking poles are recommended to provide stability, reduce impact on your knees during the steep descents, and assist on the rigorous mountain climbs.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Booking Confirmed
Upon payment of your deposit, your requested trip dates, route, and total trekking days are locked in and will not be changed by us. We will immediately begin securing your accommodations as their booking windows open. Because mountain refuges open their booking systems sporadically throughout autumn and winter, we cannot confirm your exact daily itinerary immediately. We are typically able to confirm your final itinerary and all accommodation placements by January. We will contact you as soon as every reservation for your journey is secured.
2. Itinerary Confirmed & Satisfaction Guarantee
Once your final itinerary is locked in, we will send you the confirmed list of accommodations. In the rare event that we have had to modify your original itinerary choices during the booking process and you are unhappy with the alternative placements, you reserve the right to cancel your trip and receive a full refund. To activate this guarantee and process a cancellation and refund, you must notify us in writing within 14 days of receiving your confirmed itinerary.
We reserve the right to modify any itinerary, route, activity, or objective if continuing as planned becomes impossible due to circumstances outside our control, or if it compromises client safety. Such circumstances include severe weather conditions, participant fitness or injury, and unexpected accommodation closures (such as a mountain refuge closing). Where an itinerary alteration is necessary, we will notify you in advance whenever possible.
For this hike, a local bus transfer is required on Day 3 from Cortina to Lago di Braises. This local bus carries around 30 passengers and costs around €10 per person one way. The bus ride takes about 80 minutes with one change.
Alternatively, it may be possible for us to book a private transfer for you. This would need to be requested at the time of booking and is an additional charge.
Fresh bedding is provided at all accommodations throughout your trek. However, bringing a lightweight sleeping bag liner is highly recommended, as it is standard best practice for hygiene in mountain refuges.
While towels are provided for your stays in private rooms, they are generally not supplied in dormitories. We strongly advise packing a compact microfibre travel towel as a backup for these nights and general trail use.
The accommodation will be a mixture and generally some rooms will have ensuites and others not. If having an ensuite is particularly important to you please let us know in your initial booking enquiry in the comments section, as this will influence the accommodation booked for you, and may impact the package price.
We strongly recommend booking Dolomites Alta Via 1 and Tour du Mont Blanc tour packages at least 12 months prior to travel. Because these are world-famous bucket-list treks, and availability is strictly limited due to the small capacity of private rooms within the mountain refuges, these unique accommodations sell out a year in advance. Booking early ensures we can secure the best route connections, your preferred travel dates, and guaranteed private room placements before the refuge booking systems fill up.
Yes, the nights you're staying in refuges you will generally be given the option the night before to order a packed lunch for the next day. These packed lunches haven't been pre-booked for you as part of this booking. The packed lunches you can order often include a sandwich, crisps, chocolate bar and a drink. These lunches can be added for days 3, 4, and 5.
The first couple of nights you can buy some lunch in Cortina.
Alternatively, on some days there's an option to enjoy an ala-carte lunch at a mountain refuge as you go. The food is amazing in Italy!
Yes, we can certainly add these for you. They do come at an extra cost.
Please let us know in your booking enquiry form in the comments section if you would like these included or would like to know how much these cost.
