The Ultimate Shin-etsu Trail Self-Guided Guide: Trekking the Nagano-Niigata Border
Choosing Your Ideal Package: 7-Day vs. 8-Day Across the Ridge
The Essential Journey: Shin-etsu Trail 7-Day (Sections 1 to 5)
Our foundational 7-day tour covers the stunning first five sections of the trail across 5 dedicated days of hiking. Averaging roughly 8 to 12 kilometres per day, this package includes a pre-walk briefing in Iiyama, a climb up Mt Madarao, and trail sections winding past beautiful wetlands, ponds, and panoramic lookouts. It is the perfect classic immersion into the Nagano countryside.
The Extended Route: Shin-etsu Trail 8-Day (+ Ancient Kosuge)
If you wish to explore deeper into northern Nagano's rich spiritual history, our 8-day package adds a dedicated visit to Kosuge. This addition lets you walk an ancient avenue of towering cedars up the historic stone steps leading directly to the sacred Kosuge Inner Shrine, dating back to 680 AD.
